Pozzo sacro di Predio Canopoli
The Sacro Canopoli Well, a beautiful nuragic monument, located within the historic center of Perfugas, dating back to the Middle Bronze Age, represents one of the finest examples of architecture connected to the cult of water. The well is part of a complex that includes the remains of an enclosure, made with large blocks of trachyte built on the ruins of a pre-existing megaron temple. The wall structures were built in trachyte according to the usual scheme for the type of building. Il Pozzo consists of an atrium, a descending staircase and the well chamber. The atrium has a rectangular plan, has a paved floor and features carved stone seats in both walls. In the center of the compartment there is a sacrificial table, in which a tray and a channel for the outflow of liquids have been obtained. At the bottom of the vestibule you enter the narrow staircase, consisting of eight steps, which leads to the well chamber, the latter with a circular plan and a truncated cone section. The well chamber, now soared, was probably originally covered in thòlos, with a height of about four meters. In the immediate vicinity there are also the remains of some huts, with overlapping houses from the Roman age. In the excavations carried out in 1974 various objects of extraordinary value and workmanship were found including the famous Toro, a bronze bull statue (VII-VI century BC), preserved in the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum of Sassari, and a feline in bone, of Phoenician manufacture
