Tempietto nuragico di Domu de Orgia

Description

The Domu De Orgia Temple is located in Esterzili, in southern Sardinia, and is an important archaeological site of the Nuragic age characterized by a rectangular and elongated structure defined as mégaron. Located on a hill more than a thousand meters above sea level, it is considered the most important of this type among those present on the island, it is about twenty-two meters long and eight wide made with dry stone walls, having a thickness over a meter. The vestibule from which one enters the cell is visible, which is divided into two distinct rooms, one of which is small and was considered the most sacred part of the temple. In the back there is the opistòdomo which seems to have no particular function other than to respect a certain symmetry and constructive harmony. Inside, a lithic bench covers the entire perimeter, the vestibule and the cells, which was used to welcome people and place offerings to the divinity. Nuragic objects and sacred furnishings have been found as well as coins from the Roman era, testifying to the fact that the place has been a point of reference for various populations for over a millennium. A popular legend tells that the temple was the home of an evil witch called Orgia who kept a treasure inside.
