Necropoli Mesu e Montes

Interesting archaeological site excavated in a limestone ridge, it is located in the municipality of Ossi, in the province of Sassari, on the slopes of Mount Mamas. The necropolis includes eighteen Domus de Janas all multicellular (in two there are up to twelve rooms), richly adorned with pilasters, panels, taurine protomes, false doors and spiral-shaped or wolf-tooth motifs. Seven tombs very effectively reproduce the structural peculiarities of pre-Nuragic dwellings: single or double pitched roofs, horizontal or sloping, with or without central beams and side joists, supported or not by pillars, all carved into the rock. Inside the coves the dead were buried with the useful and dear objects in life.
