Torre di Longonsardo

The Longonsardo Tower is located in the municipality of Santa Teresa Gallura and is the largest tower in all of northern Sardinia. Entirely made of granite, there is no certain dating about its construction but it is presumed to date back to 1577 as it is mentioned in the Cappellino's "Sardinia map", it has a diameter of nineteen meters and a height of eleven and is equipped with two cannons on the terrace, a water channeling system as well as a cistern under the flooring. On the opposite side of the main entrance there is a loophole which, in addition to providing light, was used for sightings. The external staircase was built later as a rope ladder was originally used. It stands on a promontory from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view and, on clear days, you can see the coast of Corsica. Together with Capo Testa and the nuragic settlement of Lu Brandali, this imposing tower represents the main attraction of one of the most popular destinations in northern Sardinia
