Description

The Cala Mariolu beach is located in Central Eastern Sardinia,in the Gulf of Orosei. It owes its name (from the Neapolitan "mariolo"meaning thief) to the monk seal, once present in the area, which apparently stole fish from the fishermen who reached the Sardinian coast from the island of Ponza. This wonderful cove is made up of many small white pebbles and its crystalline and blue sea can give you the thrill of bathing in the midst of the approaching fish attracted by the breadcrumbs thrown from the boats. It can be reached by sea starting from Santa Maria Navarrese, Arbatax or Cala Gonone. Alternatively, it can be reached on foot from Piredda, in the Golgo Plateau, after a walk of about six kilo meters. This beach is ideal for lovers of trekking, diving and snorkeling. The seabed is shallow therefore suitable for children and also for elderly.
