Cala Reale is located in northern Sardinia, within the Asinara park. This splendid cove, which takes its name from the royals of Savoy who sometimes frequented the bay, is used for the mooring of motor ships and boats, is a reference point for those who wish to venture on a path on foot, by mountain bike, horse or have fun with scuba diving. In Cala Reale there are the ancient buildings of the penal colony that was abandoned in 1998 and it is very interesting to walk "the path of memory" where you can discover the history of the wonderful Asinara nature reserve. You will be able to closely observe the stables where the prisoners worked, the ossuary of the seven thousand deported Astro-Hungarian soldiers. Along the routes you will also be able to see the pretty white donkeys, a symbol of the island, which roam undisturbed in the wild as well as the ruins of some medieval remains such as the Camaldolese castle of Sant’andrea and some nineteenth-century buildings.
