The island of San Macario is located in the pula area, a few meters from the tip of Santa Vittoria, in the southern part of Sardinia. There is a tower that takes its name from the islet of the same name. It was built at the end of the 16th century by the Spaniards and is located in a strategic point, thanks to which pirate attacks and those of the French invaders were thwarted. On the western side of the islet, made up of volcanic rock and covered with a dense Mediterranean scrub, the remains of the Byzantine Monastery of San Macario and the ruins of a small church dedicated to the saint whose cult gives the island its name are still visible. The remains of a tonnara trace the authentic origins of the place, home and reserve of fishermen who still go to the islet today.
