Description

The Roman Bridge of Porto Torres is one of the most valuable historical monuments in Sardinia. It is located in the north-western part, between Fertilia and Alghero, on the Calich pond in the part that connects Fertilia to the beaches of Alghero. In perfect condition, formed by seven arches and about one hundred and thirty five meters long, it was built in the imperial age to connect Turris Libisonis with the wheat fields of Nurra and the Argentiera mines with Cagliari. It was suitable for vehicles until the 1980s for both light and heavy vehicles that regularly passed through it to reach the petrochemical center of SIR. From the beginning of the last century until 2020 its entire walk able surface was completely covered with asphalt, only after a recent restoration was its original paving, consisting of large rough particular stones, brought to light.
