Description

The Grotta di Is Janas is located in Sadali, a small mountain town in Ogliastra. The cave owes its name to the legend according to which it was the home of three Janas, creatures capable of exercising magic, half fairies and half witches. It is said that they lived away from prying eyes to prepare delicacies and sweets and had been petrified by God for killing an old friar, the three imposing stalagmites that we find in the ovoid room, from the top of the ceiling you can see the suggestive white stalactites. The cave is embellished by the presence of a small waterfall, which forms a delightful pond immersed in a grove and opens with a rectangular entrance, immersed in a lush forest of holm oaks and develops with a two hundred and eighty meters long corridor, which ends in a room where a colony of bats lives.
